Tips for Navigating Seasonal Change
Whenever the seasons change - especially when we dive into winter - the shift in temperature can cause a bit of havoc on our wellness. This can impact everything including your immune system. How can you help navigate into new seasons with a bit more ease?
Here are some suggestions!
Stay Hydrated
We all know how important it is to keep up with our water intake as it can help with our skin, our metabolism and our digestion, but it is also vital as the temps tank and we begin to layer up. Hydration helps with the immune system and getting things we don’t want in our bodies out of them. Quality hydration also helps deliver nutrients to your cells, keeps organs running properly and helps regulate your body temperature and prevent infection.
Get Rest
Of course that is often easier said than done, especially with all of the family members coming into town, but rest is something that the body must have to be able to manage. Schedule time every week to be sure you’re relaxing, meditating, and doing things that help you feel contentment. Remember: rest is not the same as sleep and your body needs both. Quality rest improves your mood, strengthens your cardiovascular health and reduces stress and anxiety.
Eat Well
Eating foods that are in season and being sure to take in enough nutrient-dense meals is a great way to help the body fight against illness. If you find you’re too busy to do this, don’t be afraid to supplement with quality proteins, vitamins and minerals.
Keep getting your steps in
Being cold outside can be a hindrance to motivating oneself to get their steps in. Be creative and find other ways to be sure you’re not getting too stagnant in the season as blood flow is essential to the body’s ability to manage.
Love your skin
Your skin is the biggest organ you have and it is protecting against a lot of potential issues. The winter air is one of those issues that can make your skin a bit angry (cracked, inflamed, dry) so taking the time to care for it helps a lot. Hydrating on the inside helps but so does moisturizing with quality lotions and balms.
Keep up that cannabinoid wellness
Cannabinoids like CBD work with the body’s own Endocannabinoid system (ECS) which has been found to be aligned with both the central nervous system and the immune system. Believed to be responsible for homeostasis (balance), the ECS is how the highly antioxidant compounds like CBD are distributed through the body for the effects that you enjoy.
Caring for yourself as your body adjusts to the new season is a great way to bolster your ability to make it through the colder months. By taking the time to be present with yourself and disciplined in your care, you can look forward to an easier transition back into spring.
